Bacterial meningitis is a serious infection that causes permanent disabilities, brain damage or death. Many different types of bacteria can cause meningitis such as E. coli, streptococcus pneumoniae, and others. How the germs are spread depends on the type of bacteria, some can spread through contaminated food, others are spread through coughs and sneezes from an infected person.
