Paratyphoid fever is a life-threatening illness caused by salmonella paratyphi that is commonly found where water and food may be unsafe and sanitation is poor. Most people get this illness while traveling abroad especially to South Asia (Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh). The disease is spread through sewage contamination. People get the disease by eating or drinking food/drinks contaminated with feces (poop).
