Pneumococcal disease can cause many different types of infections caused by the Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria. Some infections are pneumonia, meningitis, bacteremia, or sinusitis. Anyone can get pneumococcal disease but certain people are more at risk such as children and adults over 65.
