Plague is a disease that affects humans and other mammals. Humans usually become infected after being bitten by an infected flea from an animal such as a rodent or even household pets (dogs or cats). Humans can also become infected when handling contaminated fluid or tissue from an animal such as when Hunters skin an infected rabbit or other animal without using proper precautions.
