Hantaviruses are carried by rodents and transmitted to humans when they come into contact with infected rodents or their urine, droppings, or saliva. Non-Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) is an illness with symptoms including fever, chills, headache and stomach issues but without the more serious heart and lung symptoms seen with Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS).
