Varicella, commonly known as “chickenpox”, is a virus caused by the varicella-zoster virus. Symptoms commonly associated with this virus include an itchy skin rash with blisters, fever, loss of appetite, headache. People are often infected through direct contact with blisters of the skin rash or through breathing in infected air droplets from an infected person. Some people may also become infected with chickenpox when they come in contact with people who have shingles.
